Featured Garden: Napa Landscape Design & Installation

Napa Landscape DesignThis beautiful wine country property on the Silverado Trail required a large water feature as part of the garden to help overcome the traffic and road noise in the front yard.

The homeowner had rescued nineteenth century stones from a demolition site in San Francisco, and a long arching bridge was constructed, with open slots on each side about mid-span.  Details designed and built three large ponds connected by a series of waterfalls and creek sections.  Large Sonoma fieldstone placement boulders anchor this water feature and enhance the water plants and smaller rock; the overall feel is very natural and flowing, and generates sufficient movement to drown out the road noise.

Water spills from the slots in the bridge into the pond and is highlighted by low voltage lighting… the effect after dark is dramatic. Large mature trees and screening plants in the background also help with the traffic noise.  Surrounding and hanging over the rocks and water are Japanese maples, ornamental grasses, azaleas and creeping groundcover.

With a 19th century stone bridge and a series of ponds and waterfalls, this garden fits right in with the surrounding wineries of Napa. Landscape design elements include water plants and stragetically placed boulders, for a natural yet dramatic look.
